In a previous blog post, we discussed the cycle of rejection. For a quick re-cap, it goes like this:
Step 1: Spend most of your time in the public job market without any strategy. Apply to tons of jobs online, spreading your efforts far and wide. Apply to jobs on Indeed and Company Websites. Rinse and repeat.
Step 2: Instant gratification provides the illusion of actual productivity. Feel amazing about yourself. Yes! I applied to 10 jobs today.
Step 3: Get no response. Cry yourself to sleep after drinking too much and binge watching Netflix.
Step 4: Repeat the entire cycle, over and over again, until eventual insanity ensues.

Now, let’s talk about what makes a successful Smart Job Search.
“The road to your YES” is what I teach in the Smart Job Search System. And to give you a head start, I’d like to go over the basics.
Step 1: Send outbound messages to: your network, external recruiters, and company insiders. A company insider is the Smart Job Search term for a person who has an “in” or a connection to the company where you want to work.
This is by far the best way to uncover great jobs in the Hidden Job Market.
Step 2: These messages lead to calls and conversations about companies and jobs—most of which you never knew existed, because they’re not being advertised online.
In a lot of cases these calls lead to someone in your network introducing you to someone in their network.
(Hint: You are now deeply entrenched in the Hidden Job Market)
Step 3: These calls and conversations lead to interviews.
They also lead you to cutting to the front of the line because you came in as a referral.
Step 4: Interviews lead to job offers.
Step 5: Job offers lead to your YES!
I know this seems simple and most job seeking advice makes job searching sound WAY more complex but I have seen this cycle play out positively for people thousands of times.
